Installation of wood, plastic bags with dune water and polypack PE strings
Size: 3 identical houses 3.30/2.70/3.30m.
Total dimensions 15/15m
With co-operation of Greg Que.
In the dunes of the island Ameland in the area where in former days 2 villages disappeared in the sea I built three identical frames of houses.
In the installation the history of the place touched upon present times: the present issue of building new houses in nature areas on the isle. The houses were arranged parallel to each other in a rhythmic pattern.
In the houses I hung hundreds of long plastic white lines(PE) at the same distance. On each line I hung as a weight one plastic bag filled with filtered dune water in the form of a drop. The hundreds of plastic bags hung in a level that was parallel to the relief of the ground and the relief was repeated in the installation.
The landscape was present upside down and hundreds of times in the installation.
When the wind was blowing, the bags moved in patterns that were related to the waves of the sea. The lines beneath moved in patterns that were related to the movements in the grasses in the dunes. Because of the regular arrangements of the houses, the lines and the bags, there originated a rhythmic game of movements.
The bags and lines were removed at the end of the project and treated as waste. So they became part of the cycle.
